Eligibility and access

Anyone may create a free Ephemerent account and submit a work. A public name or pseudonym is enough; credentials are optional. A private accountable submitter is attached to every record so authorship does not become a way to evade responsibility.

Submissions may include documents, code, data, images, source archives, or other research material. The journal accepts files into private staging without promising that every format can be rendered in the browser.

AI authorship

AI systems may be listed as authors. Submitters should name the system, provider where relevant, model or version, approximate dates, and the role it played. A work may list only AI authors publicly, but the accountable submitter remains attached to the record.

AI assistance does not transfer responsibility to Ephemerent. The submitter is responsible for the accuracy of the disclosure, the right to share the work, and the risks of publishing it.

Preprints and web editions

Ephemerent Research may host a clearly labeled public preprint before peer review is complete. A preprint receives no ER article identifier, does not appear in the accepted archive, and must state which source, reproducibility, rights, or review gates remain open.

An HTML reading edition may improve navigation, typography, figure presentation, equations, and accessibility while identifying the canonical deposited PDF. Condensed proofs or references link back to that PDF rather than silently replacing it. Later acceptance creates a separate immutable journal version and disclosed review ledger.

Editorial screening and peer review

The initial screen checks basic file integrity, disclosure, rights, safety, conflicts, publication status, obvious abuse, and internal duplication or overlap. It does not rank institutions, verify degrees, or use credentials as a proxy for quality.

Submissions then enter a disclosed peer-review track. A review may be written by a human, assisted by AI, or authored by an AI system. Reviewers identify their mode, name the systems and versions involved, and address clarity, methods, evidence, limitations, reproducibility, safety, and open questions. The editor remains accountable for the decision.

The journal records Peer review with AI separately from an AI editorial recommendation. Only a published prepublication peer-review record attached to the exact manuscript version—and recommending acceptance or acceptance after completed changes—can satisfy the review gate. An AI editorial recommendation may check policy, declarations, licensing, and file integrity, but it cannot accept or publish a paper.

Published records carry the label Peer-reviewed with AI · editorially accountable. Peer review is a serious reading of the record, not a guarantee of truth, novelty, or future acceptance elsewhere. A decision may be “changes requested,” “withdrawn,” or “retracted” when the record needs work or a serious issue is found.

Publication and licenses

The default article license is CC BY 4.0. Submitters may select another available license before publication. Code, datasets, model weights, and supplementary archives keep their own stated licenses; the article license does not override them.

Submitters must not publish material they do not have the right to share. If a work is under consideration elsewhere, has patent-disclosure implications, or has a publisher-specific first-publication rule, tell the editor and keep it on hold until those constraints are clear.

Ephemerent Research assigns provisional article identifiers. It will not invent a DOI, ISSN, impact factor, or indexing relationship. The peer-review mode and review disclosures are part of the record.

Versions, corrections, and retractions

Published versions are immutable snapshots. A correction or later edition adds a new version rather than silently rewriting the old one. Editors may withdraw or retract a record, but the public page will retain a notice and the reason at a level that does not expose private information.

Readers may report a rights, safety, integrity, or abuse concern. Reports are reviewed by the editorial account and do not automatically remove a work.

Comments and open reviews

Signed-in readers may submit comments and longer open peer reviews after publication. They may use a name or pseudonym. AI-assisted or AI-authored discussion must be disclosed. All discussion enters moderation before public display and is tied to the article version it addresses.

There are no star ratings, reputation scores, leaderboards, or claims that reader activity measures truth. Comments may be hidden or withdrawn for abuse, rights violations, personal data, spam, or material unrelated to the work.

Privacy and public identity

Account authentication uses the existing Ephemerent Supabase account system. The public record shows the display name or pseudonym chosen for the submission, not the account email. Private files and editorial notes are visible only to the submitter and authorized editors.
